Ewelina Szmytke

Ewelina Szmytke joined LuCE in 2015 as a representative of the Polish patient organization for people impacted by lung cancer based in Gdańsk. In 2015 she was also co-opted as a board member, then in 2016 she was elected as the Vice-President of LuCE and re-elected for the position in 2020 for the next 4 years.

From 2016-2019, on behalf of LuCE, she was a member of the European Lung Foundation (ELF) Council, the organisation’s main controlling body. They are responsible for the work plan, activities and financial control of ELF.

Currently Ewelina is the Chair of a LuCE working group for the development of ATLAS for access to treatment and biomarker testing in lung cancer in Europe.

She represents LuCE in European and global conferences and congresses for lung cancer, and is a part of patient advisory groups. She supports implementation of screening programmes across EU— for example taking an active role on behalf of LuCE in the European Cancer Forum in December 2022. This Forum gathers different EU stakeholders in the field of lung cancer to translate the Beating Cancer Plan into real practise. She also takes active role in the Lung Cancer Policy Network, which is focused on promoting tools developed for national implementation of lung cancer screening.

Ewelina has over 15 years of experience in patient advocacy and around 10 years of EU level patient advocacy in lung cancer.

She speaks Polish (Native), and English.
