Some positive news last week when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved alectinib as an adjuvant treatment for ALK-positive non-small cell lung cancer.
‘Efficacy was demonstrated in a global, randomized, open-label trial (ALINA, NCT03456076) in patients with ALK-positive NSCLC who had complete tumor resection,’ the FDA said.
Ken Culver of ALK Positive, a patient and caregiver advocacy group in the US, said in a statement reported in MedPage Today, that: ‘The approval of Alecensa [alectinib] marks a pivotal moment for people newly diagnosed with early-stage ALK-positive lung cancer, who until now, were not able to receive ALK-specific therapy.’
‘With this significant advance, it is more important than ever that all patients diagnosed with early-stage lung cancer undergo testing for ALK and other recommended biomarkers to receive the treatment most appropriate for them.’
You can read more about this development here on the FDA website: https://www.fda.gov/drugs/resources-information-approved-drugs/fda-approves-alectinib-adjuvant-treatment-alk-positive-non-small-cell-lung-cancer

We’re delighted to welcome five new member organizations to our growing Lung Cancer Europe (LuCE) network.

Last weekend LuCE hosted a very productive AGM and General Assembly in Zagreb. We were delighted to see some new members elected to the Board of Lung Cancer Europe.
We also had a variety of excellent educational presentations:
➡️ LuCE President Anne-Marie Baird presented on ‘New technologies and therapies in lung cancer’
➡️ Sarah Geraghty of The Communications Clinic on the ‘Importance of Communication’,
➡️ Ivana Stracenski of J&J Innovative Medicine on ‘Orphan Drug Designation’ and
➡️ ‘Updates from the EU’ by LuCE Policy Officer Alfonso Aguarón.
There were also emotional moments as Vice-President Ewelina Szmytke’s mandate came to an end . . . and happier times too as we got to reunite with members.
We would again like to thank all those who contributed to making this such a successful event - including our speakers, our members, LuCE staff, our supporters and all the team in Zagreb.
Thank you.
