Meet Outi-Maria Liedes, a remarkable advocate from Finland, representing the Finnish lung cancer organization (Suomen Keuhkosyöpäpotilaat). They recently joined LuCE, and we're so pleased to have them on board.

🤝 As a small organization, their journey began late last year, when a group of lung cancer patients in Finland came together for peer support.

🎉 In forming their organization the group is committed to getting the voice of the patient heard at all levels in Finland and to improving access to important treatments that are not available in their country.

Meet a Member – Viktoria Romaniuk and Kseniia Yesina, Athena.Women Against Cancer

Meet Sabine Hatzfeld, a committed member of LuCE and the representative of Zielgenau from Germany.

🔍 Zielgenau's focus is on targeted therapies for lung cancer patients. Their mission is to ensure that all non-small cell lung cancer patients receive a molecular diagnosis and therapy recommendations based on the latest knowledge, as well as access to new drugs and clinical trials.

🌍 As a LuCE member for over the past two years, Zielgenau has gained invaluable insights into the treatment of lung cancer in Europe, highlighting the differences in approaches, timelines, and advocacy across various countries. These provide the organization with additional background and knowledge for their work as patient representatives in their own country.

Meet a Member – Sabine Hatzfeld, Zielgenau e.V.

Meet Raluca Bârzu, who represents the Federation of Cancer Association Patients from Romania, and a proud member of LuCE!

🤝 Founded in 2004, the Federation of Cancer Association Patients has over 26 patient associations who are committed to a powerful mission: to advocate and lobby for the rights of cancer patients in Romania. They are actively involved in several patient advocacy projects with a particular focus on screening and early detection, especially for lung cancer.

One ground breaking project, "respira usor" (easy breathing), is among the first in Europe for the early detection of lung cancer and respiratory diseases.

Meet a Member – Roxana Raluca Barzu, Federatia Asociatiilor Bolnavilor de Cancer din Romania (FABC)

Meet Diego Villalón: a dedicated advocate from Fundación Más Que Ideas in Spain and a proud member of LuCE.

Fundación Más Que Ideas is a non-profit organization comprised of individuals affected by cancer. Their mission is to advocate for and support those affected by this disease.

🤝 In 2015, they joined LuCE, which gave them “amazing opportunity” to connect and collaborate with organizations across Europe, exchanging ideas, experiences, and projects. Diego believes that this cross-border cooperation is what makes Lung Cancer Europe so invaluable.

Meet Lavinia Magee: Nurse Consultant in Thoracic Oncology at Royal Papworth Hospital and a representative of Lung Cancer Nursing UK.

👩‍⚕️ Lung Cancer Nursing UK is an organisation of dedicated lung cancer specialist nurses, with 300+ members across the UK. These nurses play a crucial role throughout the entire patient journey – from pre-diagnosis to treatment and end-of-life care.

Meet Stefania Vallone, a dynamic member of LuCE and the representative of Women Against Lung Cancer in Europe from Italy.

🤝 Women Against Lung Cancer in Europe (WALCE) has a clear mission: to improve the lives of people living with lung cancer and their families. They work diligently to identify and address the multiple and growing needs of the lung cancer patient community through educational and support programs, advocacy actions, and primary prevention initiatives.

🌍 Stefania shares that being part of LuCE has been invaluable to her organization. It has provided her with the opportunity to enhance her knowledge of lung cancer, connect with a supportive network, and amplify their voice through position papers and reports, not just in Europe but also in her home country of Italy.

Meet a Member – Stefania Vallone, Women Against Lung Cancer in Europe (WALCE)

👋 Meet Erika Pataki, the representative of Lelek-zet association in Hungary.

🌍 Erika is also a dedicated board member of LuCE, and the Lead in our Working Group for our public awareness campaigns such as the 'Get Tested!'.

👉 Lelek-zet is the first and only specific lung cancer organisation in Hungary, and they are committed to supporting lung cancer patients. Their mission? To improve communication between clinicians and patients, reduce the stigma surrounding lung cancer, and work towards preventing this disease.

💪 Erika and her team are making a difference through various initiatives, including screening programmes, smoke cessation support, and addressing air pollution issues.

Meet Sandra Karabatic, an enthusiastic member of LuCE and the representative of Jedra, the Association of Lung Cancer Patients in Croatia.

🤝 Jedra's primary mission is to inform and support patients with lung diseases. The organization’s goals revolve around uniting various social spheres within the cancer community and raising awareness within the general public of the many issues facing cancer patients. Their focus is to emphasize the importance of early diagnosis, and to ensure availability and accessibility to treatment options.
